I registered as a Republican in Philly because I wanted to be able to vote in the local primaries, and thought it would be better to vote between two GOP candidates versus two of the typical city liberals. Well, this now looks like a mistake as even I, someone who has frequently decried the MAGA Right as dangerously retarded, appears to have underestimated the stupidity of these people.
If you didn’t already know, Philly is a heavily Democratic city. 16 of the 17 City Council members are liberal. A Republican hasn’t won the Mayor’s office since 1948, and a Republican has literally never been President of City Council. It’s for all intents and purposes a one-party city.
Knowing this, you would assume that the GOP would be focused on the policies that could pull in more voters. A platform that could inspire the masses and offer contrast to the Democrats. A hearts and minds campaign that can sow the seeds of revolution.
Yeah, nope. Here’s an email from the leader of Philly’s 8th Ward GOP.
Election integrity? Do you know how stupid that is in a city where Democrats outnumber Republicans 6 to 1? Election integrity should be the least of their worries.
The fundraiser is whatever, but what are they even fundraising for? There’s no info here. No vision. No platform. Not even a website (I checked, it doesn’t exist). Nothing beyond poll watching.
And then we have the little Reagan motivational callback. Beyond the silliness of comparing Reagan and Trump, the dude doesn’t even spell Reagan’s name right. It’s a stunning lack of seriousness.
As an upstanding and confrontational citizen, I told the guy how I felt.
Unexpectedly, his answer lacked seriousness.
And again, I let him know how I felt.
He never responded. But he has sent emails like this.
Was I being too much of a dick to warrant a response? Possibly, but at the same time, it’s not like there’s an overflow of Republican voters. I might actually be an important vote, so to lose me over asking what the party platform is seems a bit shortsighted.
But I really shouldn’t be surprised. These are not serious people. Republicans as a whole are not serious people. They want tariffs irrespective of all economic literature and common sense. They don’t want immigrants simply because they don’t like immigrants. They spend hours upon hours on podcasts and TV shows discussing trans people. They claim to be free speech, but then kick out green card holders for passing out pamphlets. They distrust science. They distrust academia. They distrust the mainstream media. Basically distrust anyone who isn’t Trump or on his knees for Trump is not to be trusted. Frankly, it’s a party of unserious idiots.
This is what Hanania means when he says Low Human Capital. It’s not about the policies (although they are atrocious). It’s about how the modern right operates. Strategies with no real planning beyond “what feels good in this moment”. Fuck planning for a weak dollar, we are just going to make the factories go brrr. 6 to 1 voter disadvantage? Who gives a fuck, all we need to do is stop the steal. Tariff policy? Let’s just have ChatGPT do it and try to obfuscate it behind Greek symbols. Markets nuking straight to the Earth’s core? Trust me bro they are actually booming.
Government via Biden’s handlers was not ideal. But at least they tried to do their job with an inkling of effort and thought. You just can’t say that anymore. We are now all Logan Roy.
